In Memoriam
There comes a time where we must say goodbye to our beloved companions. This page is dedicated to all those wonderful little dogs who have brought joy to our lives. If you would like to post a memorial for a loved one, please email webmaster@ddrtx.org with a picture of your pet and your message. A donation to DDRTX is appreciated and can be made by clicking the Donate button below. The donation in honor of your dachshund will go towards the loving care of many dachshunds in need.

In Memory of Peggy Sue Crossed the Rainbow Bridge February 17, 2009
Lost a treasured friend today The little dog who used to lay Her gentle head upon my knee And share her silent thoughts with me She'll come no longer to my call Retrieve no more her favorite ball A voice far greater than my own Has called her to His golden throne. Although my eyes are filled with tears, I thank him for the happy years, He let her spend down here with me And for her love and loyalty. When it is time for me to go, And join her there, this much I know.. I shall not fear the transient dark For she will greet me with her bark

In Memory of Leroy Crossed the Rainbow Bridge April 2008 Sometimes size does make a difference. It did for our Leroy...his standard length belied his gracefulness; his large body blessed us with a warm, loving heart and a tenacious will to live. We loved him when he was healthy and even more when he was recovering from surgery. His passing left a void in our pack but a warm memory for all who knew him. Beloved companion of Lee and Nancy Alexander and "sisters" Fritzi and Abigail. |

In Memory of Gus & Buddy
I had smooth hair Dachshunds before, but
always wanted a long hair; while in Germany that was one of my dreams
when getting back to the states. So our first Christmas back, Gus was
given to me (a total and complete surprise) by Lou. Lou picked out Gus
when he was first born and was assured he was a long hair, well nobody
told Gus that! Not having a long hair ever, thought maybe it would grow,
well it didn't and so I called the breeder and she said in a litter when
mommy is longhaired and daddy is not you can get both and said she would
take him back in exchange for a longhair, there was no way anyone was
going to take my Gus away, so she said she had two longhair left from a
litter and so we decided Gus needed a Buddy. They were true companions
to both us and each other and gave us such joy and laughter-who needs TV
when you have two Doxies playing!! We lost Gus when he was fourteen
years four months, he was very sick and when we had to put him to sleep,
I just held him and kept thanking him for all the joy he brought to us.
We thought Buddy would die of a broken heart after losing his life long
friend, but Buddy lived to seventeen years eight months and that was
after losing the use of his back legs twice and getting him back to
walking twice with acupuncture. Gus crossed the Rainbow Bridge March 2002 Buddy crossed the Rainbow Bridge September 2006 Beloved companion of Lou and Marilyn Paliania |

MangoCrossed over the Rainbow Bridge May 28, 2010 How do you describe the 10 lb bundle of love we called Mango? He loved his ball more than food and his people even more than that! He never sat by himself if he could have 1 or more of his people instead. He could jump flat footed 5 ft in the air and he did that nonstop when he was excited. We had the great privilege (thanks to DDRTX) to know him for about 18 months, and for that we will be forever grateful. There will always be a “Mango” sized hole in our heart and lots of memories in our minds. We always talked about how much Mango needed us, but now we know it was us that needed him. Love Judy, Cathy, and Lulu |

BrandyCrossed the Rainbow Bridge July 12, 2010 Beloved Companion of Sheyenne and Dakota You were my very first dog, and I miss you so much. I wish you were still here, alive that is, but you were going on 17 this year. Now I feel a little empty inside knowing that you're not here anymore, but it was your time. We didn't want you to be in pain. Well, one day when we all go, we'll see you waiting for us. I miss you so much, and I think about you everyday. I love you Brandy. Oh, and one more thing. No other dog could replace you, and Dakota (my little sister) still thinks about you too. I love you so very much. Good luck, and we'll see you one day. |

You earned your nickname of Sallygator for your tendency to get so excited
while trying to lick someone that you would accidentally snap at them. We
miss you terribly but we are glad you are young again and no longer
uncomfortable. Your buddy Lucy must be excited to be reunited with you. I
know my mom is taking care of you until we see you again.
