Happy Endings!

My precious Frankie is in a wonderful, forever, permanent home where he will never know fear, pain or hunger.  He was starved, severely infected with heartworms, his tail was bleeding from knocking it against his heavy chain in the hopes that someone would pet him or give him attention. He had no food or water and was chained to a tree when he was rescued. After several years of care and working with him on his behavioral problems, he was adopted to a great family.  I miss him terribly, but he has a great home of his own, a doxie girlfriend, and wonderful, tolerant and understanding humans to adore him and his funny ways!  Way to go my sweet, Frankenstuff!"

I was looking for a pal for our dachshund, Julius, when I happened to stumble on a dachshund rescue site. My husband had wanted a black dog and you can imagine my excitement at seeing a picture of Tiger. His story revealed that he been through some pretty rough times and my heart just went out to him. When we picked him up we fell in love. Julius took to him right away and they are constantly playing and wrestling until they fall asleep side-by-side. Tiger is all boy and loves to be outdoors searching the yard for buried treasure or playing a game of chase with the birds. He is fit and healthy and the vet says he has the cutest face she has ever seen. He is always ready to give love and between his and Julius' kisses, our faces are sure to be clean. Julius and Tiger's antics keep us laughing and smiling everyday. His endearing spirit and coy nature has completed our family and stolen our hearts. Mandy and Rey Muniz

In 2000, my husband and I flew to San Antonio to adopt two exceptional boys, Opus and Winston.  We had no idea how much they would improve our lives.  They'd had a hard life; Opus was painfully thin and Winston had been physically abused. Opus has grown into such a handsome dog.  His favorite food is Kung Pao Chicken and he has adjusted well to life in Wisconsin. He absolutely loves to play in the snow. Winston didn't like men, but now my husband is his favorite person.  Winston likes to roll on his back and have my husband blow on his belly.  He is completely at ease with his daddy.  We are so proud that we were able to help these two little souls.  I thought about how I was going to help them.  I never realized all that I would receive in return.  They are so appreciative of the love and the life they have with us.  I know I'm loved because of the never-ending kisses and tail wags. We are a happy family thanks to Christine. Opus & Winston Stephenson

Almost 2 1/2 years ago, Nancy and I began thinking of a companion for our then 3-yr old registered red mini, Fritzi vonSchnitzel IV.  By coincidence our search focused when we bumped into Barrett Houlihan at our local Petsmart.  Barrett gave us a clue that there was a Doxie rescue organization and to contact Christine.   Our first venture in adoption was a failure since prissy Fritzi rejected Christine's Wally.

We were devastated but Christine quietly told us to wait a while and there would be another opportunity.  On a Sunday we drove to Kerrville, down to the park by the river and Christine presented us with a choice of companion dogs.  The first was small and frisky and the right size to be another lap companion for us all.  But Christine said wait till you meet Leroy....and proceeded to bring out this big, black and tan, shiny  male standard...who overwhelmed us both. Nancy is only 5' 1" tall and Leroy enveloped her!   I was worried that Nancy would not be able to handle such a large animal, yet  Fritzi seemed okay with the first sniff test and okayed the deal, and despite my misgivings about size, we agreed to take 5- yr old Leroy for a trial run.  Christine calls Leroy a "gentle giant" and he is just that.  He effortlessly bounds onto chair, sofa or bed as a feather.   He is warmly affectionate, gets along with our 2 cats (loves to chase them if they move, but okay if they share same watering bowl).  We crated him when he first came to us as we were unsure of his training.  Then came the first rain and we invited him into bed.....now HIS.  Leroy's 35 pound frame sometimes makes it difficult for his humans to find a spot.  Leroy came to us blessed with a kind heart, warm and loving demeanor and POTTY TRAINED!  He has a coon wail he uses when needed to prod the humans into proper I-want actions:

I want carrots; chews; you're too slow with the food dishes; gotta go for a walk NOW....etc.   He and Fritzi are true friends....he has taught her how to play or he goes to his toy basket and pulls one out and plays by himself.   Lee gets to walk the pair in the mornings (thankfully they sleep uninterrupted); Nancy and Lee walk them at night.  Our grandchildren delight in coming to visit, especially Jonathan who lives in San Antonio and our 3-year old granddaughter in Frisco who asked us to bring Leroy up for her birthday visit.  We are so thankful for the organization that would save a dog for us humans to enjoy.  Leroy came to DDRTX after he was found wandering mal-nourished (18.5 lbs), with hair loss and fire-ant bites.  Our respect for the organization has encouraged us to volunteer to help where we can.  Thank you for Leroy.  He's my boy when I am around, but follows Nancy during the day.  He waits at the door for me to come home and gives a LARGE greeting.

Duke is a young, 1.5 year old 11 pound boy who was very shy and timid, but he has come out of his shell and is having lots of "firsts" in his new forever home! He is being told how handsome he is and hears the words "I love you" at least a hundred times a day! Cannot tell who's happier, Duke or his mom!

Buddy Holly - My wonderful, handsome and crotchety little Bud-Man has found a home in San Antonio who thinks he's just perfect - he even gets to live with his friend in rescue, Jordan! These boys were in rescue for over a year together and became fast friends, so it was only natural that they remain together in a home where they will both be comfortable, spoiled and happy. Buddy is a great little 6 year old mini fellow who absolutely adores his adopted daddy.

Jordan, my sweet, gentle and loving little Jordy has a great home with Buddy Holly in San Antonio. Jordan came to rescue very abused, kicked and beaten, malnourished and terrified of human feet and legs that used to hurt him. He now has progressed to loving food, all food, taking his toys outside to leave in the yard, and spending hours in his new mom's lap. He even walks on a leash as long as his friend, Buddy Holly is with him! He is overcoming fears and enjoying a happy life with a doggie door to the outside, and a warm, safe, loving bed to sleep in every night. Way to Go, Jordy! I am so very proud of you!

Sampson - an adorable, sweet, gentle, long haired red male who was only about 18 months of age when he was found running the streets of SA. He weighs about 10-11 pounds, is great with other dogs and kids. Sampson is delightful, snuggles and is very affectionate - his new home has children, parents who adore him, and is now a happy, safe, and secure little fellow.

Sugar was one of my favorites during her stay in rescue. She went through heartworm treatment, has a great, dominate personality with a very specific temperament that says she is sure of herself and her place in the world. This little wire haired beauty was only about 2 years of age and had already endured so much in her short life, that it is heartwarming to know that she has a great life with a little brother dachshund that she can boss around and teach manners to! She's a loving little girl who enjoys lap time and kisses - her new parents think she's absolutely perfect! And so do I.

Here are a couple of adorable dogs that I wanted to see placed in a home together. Sky and Donna are littermates and both are double dappled long haired dachshunds who are approximately 9 - 10 months of age and weigh about 10-11 pounds. Sky is a sweet, outgoing and happy boy who is mostly deaf and is blind in one eye, hence, he relies on Donna to help him and protect him. Donna is fine, no health problems at all and she's the sweetest little, outgoing dog! Both get along well with other dogs and are a bit timid of strangers, but once they get to know you, they are all love and attention! Both will be spayed/neutered and current on shots and on heartworm preventative prior to placement in a home.

This little darling is absolutely precious and snuggly. She's a shy little girl who weighs about 12 pounds and is only 18 months old! Her coat is very special and it enhances her wonderful 'houndy' face. Byrdie is a beautiful red piebald with a lot of red "ticking" or spots over the white coat. She looks like a long little red heeler, but is all doxie. Byrdie Mae now lives in one of the absolute best doxie homes outside of SA, spoiled, happy, chases squirrels and adores her other doxie friends.

Packer is a beautiful 7 year old wheaton wire haired dachshund who was not in very healthy condition upon his arrival to rescue, after vetting and lots of care and love from his foster mom in Boerne, Texas, he found his "forever" home in San Antonio with a wonderful family who thinks the world of him and who are amazed at his happy go lucky personality! Great boy, great home!

Tabitha's beautiful, she's active and playful, and has a wonderful attitude and personality! Tabby is a short haired red brindle youngster who we estimate is about 12-14 months of age. Tabitha loves her new brother (also a brindle doxie!) and is now living in a safe, happy and loving home where she can get attention, sleep in bed with her humans, get belly rubs and kisses. She's been a joy and it's been a true privilege to know this young lady.

This little rainbow came to rescue and has been such a love - hated to part w/ this precious boy, but his home is absolutely perfect for him. Skittles is a beautifully handsome double dapple mini short haired boy, weighs only about 9-10 pounds, and is approximately 13-16 months old. He has the most beautiful blue eyes and a busy, active and playful personality. He lives in Llano with a wonderful family on a ranch where he can play, romp and enjoy life!

This absolutely adorable & precious little darling' has had a wonderful life & is now able to maintain her high standard of living. Mocha is a little Blue Sable Longhaired female mini girl 2 years, 8 months of age, weighs only 11.2 pounds. She's a delightful little cutie who likes to play, loves to snuggle, & is good with other dogs - which is a good thing, as her adopted mom has gotten her a brother to play with! Yes, it's Utah! Also a rescued boy here in DDR. Together, Mokie and Utah are a grand, happy, healthy, and gorgeous couple, living in the lap of luxury in a loving home in San Antonio!

Logan - I absolutely adored Logan while he was with me in rescue. Such an absolute joy to have him stay with me! Logan is a big ol' teddy bear who was frightened of men and children. He found his 'soulmate' when Margaret decided to adopt him, and now they have each other to concentrate on and love! He has a wonderful happy home with a mom who adores every fiber of Logan's being, and he is reciprocating that love every day! I'm so glad that this big red man has found the home of his dreams!

Athena - this precious adorable little tiny scrap of dachshund came to rescue at 9 months of age, and weighing only 5.9 pounds. She met her foster mom, Judy, who took her under her wing and helped Athena on her way towards being a happy, well adjusted little girl dog. Athena chose to be adopted by a wonderful lady who is helping Athena build up her confidence and has given her the stability and compassion that she needed to develop into an amazingly wonderful little girl!  This little girl was very special to us all, from the transporters to the foster home, we were thankful to be touched by her sweetness!
Ariel - is a little spitfire with a dominant personality in such a wee little body!  Ariel is only 6.1 pounds, was 8 months old when she came to rescue, and is a gorgeous chocolate piebald short haired girl. Ariel needed to know that she'd always have two meals a day and that she could be happy living in a house with carpeting, a warm bed, and a family who loves her. She has all of that now and is happily enjoying a spoiled lifestyle that we desire for all of our precious rescues!
Toby - this is one amazingly beautiful boy - a shiny, well cared for long haired black and tan boy who was only 16 months of age when he came to us looking for the perfect home. He found it! He currently has a wonderful, fabulous home in the SA area with a very nice lady that also has another black and tan short haired boy - they are perfect together! Same size, shape and color, just that Toby's hair is longer! Always happy to see two peas in a pod become buddies and boss their humans around!
Pebbles is a wonderful, happy, outgoing little girl. She's a chocolate pie bald short haired miniature female. She gets along great with other dogs. Not sure about cats, crate trained, however, she now lives in a happy, healthy and loving home where she will never have to spend time in a crate - but has the entire house to run and play in with her other doggie friends! Her new family has definitely offered her the "forever home" she's hoped for and she's now not just a dog, but a well loved family member.
Leo has a very independent and dominant personality for such a tiny little fellow. He is also an absolutely wonderful kissy and playful little boy! Leo has been well cared for his entire life but needed a home with no children. Leo's strong personality is evident in his likes and dislikes, not to mention his demanding attention of his humans! He is only 14 months of age, and a wee little man who weighs only 7.5 pounds. He's a beautiful short haired red male. He wanted (no, he demanded!) and received, a home that would love and respect his impish personality!
When we adopted Chesney (formerly chica sprinkles) in '03, it was stated that she was scared of other dogs, didn't know how to play with toys & was generally shy about thing. We lived on a 2nd floor 2 bedroom apartment and since May 2003 we have purchased a 3 bedroom one story house (complete with yard, grass, fence and trees). Our little angels are one of the primary reasons that we picked the house that we did. It didn't take long before Chesney was full of energy & now wants to run all the time, but when it comes time to rest and cuddle, she does that extremely well too. She has more toys & sweaters than any one dog needs. Chesney also has a big brother who loves her unconditionally, the two times they were apart Olson didn't know what to do with himself. Chesney is a very special baby, we are very proud to call her ours. She and Olson (her older dachshund brother, also a rescue) have made us so happy & are the reason we count down the minutes till we can leave work.
eboneezer_ONE.JPG Ebony - Eboneezer- a cute little wire haired pup with a perky personality, now lives in Austin with many doxie friends and visitors as his mommy is a foster home! He's a gentle, sweet, cute little tyke who has been a joy to have visit with us a while!
Wilbur - OMG. I LOVE this dog! He's a little human person in a precious dachshund body. He's alert, happy, joyful, and sweet. His heartworms are all gone, and he lives with a wonderful, adoring, and attentive new daddy in San Antonio , where I am quite certain, he will be loved until the end of his days. This fellow with the human eyes has been a wonderful addition to our rescue family, I'm so glad that he found his perfect, permanent home!
Lucy I'm Home was a beautiful wire haired lady who found the perfect home where she adores both her humans and vies for lap time with no one. She's an only child where she is happily absorbing all the love and attention she can get! She lives in the SA area with her new parents who she "chose" all by herself and would not take "no" for an answer!
Precious Tater head boy found a great home in Kerrville Texas with a happy, bouncy playful sister dachshund to pal around and play chase with! He's a great little chocolate pie bald boy pup who is an absolute joy to have around any house!
Izzy is in a wonderful home that suits her precious, loving personality perfectly. She and Binky both were adopted by the same gentle personality humans that adore and dote on these two itty bitty ladies. Izzy's coat has improved; she's a pretty mixture of Cream and Isabella, whereas Binky is a miniature red female who loves everyone. These ladies hit the jackpot with their new family - they sleep in bed with their people, covered up to their pretty noses with blankies and try to steal the pillows too! Way to go baby girls!
Maxx is a gorgeous handsome longhaired black and tan mini boy who found a happy home in Kerrville, Texas with a family and a brother dog to romp and play with. He's an attention hound who hates to be alone, but such a happy, inquisitive youngster, who is only 18 months of age and full of doxie kisses.
Furby is a gentle loving little girl who found a new mom in San Antonio who adores her and thinks she's the prettiest little lady in the universe - she's right! Furby is a gorgeous chocolate long haired 6 year old beauty who deserves the absolute best life. Her long, curly ears hung nearly to the floor and made her appear even more beautiful. Smart, beautiful, gentle and adoring - sigh... wish we had more perfect dachshunds with her personality!

Holly & Pepper (formerly Katie) were adopted in October and our family has never been the same.  They have become such a huge part I don?t know how we ever lived without them.  We have overly spoiled them and they enjoy every minute of the attention.  With three daughters they are never without a playmate and they enjoy entertaining us as well with the WWD (World Wrestling of Dachshund) and the Dachshund 500.  They are truly a joy and blessing.  I am glad that we were able to give them a home that they would feel safe and loved.  Holly & Pepper have been great about telling other humans about DDR.  No matter where we are people will stop and ask us where we got them because of their fabulous color and Holly & Pepper have no problem letting them know that they were rescued from Diamond Dachshund and there are more beautiful dachshunds that need homes.  Thank you Christine for extending our family by 8 feet!

Chipper was one of the special kids that I lost my heart to. He is a tiny little blue dapple miniature boy with a gentle, shy and impish nature. He went from fearful and timid to loving and snuggly with lots of love, attention, time and patience. He now lives between Boerne and San Antonio with his new siblings and parents.  Room to run, hide, play, chase squirrels and curl up on mom's lap after a long day of romping with his doxie buddies. Perfect for Chippy whose favorite pastime was getting kisses and neck nibbles!

Harry Cane was rescued from the ravages of hurricane Katrina in Louisiana. This little long haired dapple cutie now lives with his new mom in Kerrville, Texas where he's spoiled rotten, plays in a huge yard, and gets tons of attention, love and snuggles. Plus, I get to visit him whenever I can!  I fell in love hard with this gentle soul with a precious personality, so I'm tickled he is close by!
Tonto, our precious standard cream and white double dapple pup who is deaf, found his perfect home with a couple who have discovered his joyous spirit and gentle personality fits into their home like he's been there forever!  We all got attached to precious Tonto and are thrilled that he has such a wonderful home to live in, with a buddy, a doting mom and a great dad! See? Deaf dogs are not as much of a problem or handicap as most folks think.
Skeeter and Jazz can be moved to happy endings together: Skeeter and Jazz came from a horrifying situation during the Hurricanes in Louisiana. Skeeter is a red piebald and Jazz is a beautiful red lady. Both were able to stay together with a new home up in the DFW area where they romp, play, rule the roost, nap w/ mom, and are spoiled absolutely rotten as they soooo deserve to be!
Paris II- Paris is a great little black and tan piebald wire haired mini girl who was shy and timid, but great with other dogs. She found a home with a nice family in Universal City area outside San Antonio; she's five years old and now has a happy life with family and 'friends' - other dogs to keep her company.
Chance came to rescue twice and found a loving home both times, this time, forever and ever! He now lives in Odessa with an identical twin looking girl doggie - whom he adores, and a family who thinks he's absolutely beautiful (which of course he is!). Chance is red long haired boy about 7 years old, and was perfect - toys, kids, dogs, healthy, loving, playful and so easy to love. Glad he found his 'final' forever and ever home.

Gilda Sue Who - A tiny little bouncy long haired mini 13 month old girl with loads of personality came into rescue and found her 'perfect' home. She never met a stranger and would indiscriminately kiss anyone - here's a kissing booth contestant! She's got a fabulous home who thinks she's the most beautiful little girl they've ever seen. She's safe, happy, healthy and most of all, well loved in a comfortable home.

Casper - What can I say about Casper? he's an adorable little 15 month old double dapple boy with an amazing personality. He learned to trust, to play with toys, to be housetrained, and now he's learning agility and going to doggie school - he's soooo smart! Like a little sponge. We are all so proud of him and how far he's come from that shy, timid little scrap of doggie, on to a confident, intelligent and talented luv-muffin!  He still has some fear issues, but he's working through them gently.  He lives in Kerrville with two other girl doggies and a mom who is so proud, she could squeeze the stuffing outta him!
Bruno and Brutus were two HUGE young red standard boys who found their "forever" home with a previous adoptor! Yes, their folks adopted Frankie from me many years back, he's now about 12 years old, and amazingly tolerant of these two monster boy dogs in his yard!  Bruno and Brutus are handsome big boys - when they jump on your leg, they about knock you over with their youthful enthusiasm and joy at finding a new family!

Roxie Doxie - the worlds cutest black and tan wire haired lady. That beard and eyebrows of hers are just hilarious! Her cute, kissy, never-met-a-stranger personality was infectious and she could have had a home anywhere! She chose a family who'd been looking for the perfect little wire girl, through rescue, they found each other! I really liked Roxie and am thrilled she's happy and settled in well with her new found family!

Dominick - this boy had a sad story, from the hurricane ravaged areas of Louisiana, there is no telling what all this little young boy could tell us that he's seen. He came in all sick and skinny to us at DDRTX. He was fixed up, made healthy and went to a young man who saw his photo and just knew that Dominick was "his" soul mate. This little red boy has more soul, love and personality in one little long body than most people do. He and his new doxie dad live in San Antonio and are happily ever after!
Skittles - Tiny little Skittles is a special needs double dapple mini short haired pup that came to us with severe vision and blindness issues, her hearing is fine. But we wanted her to have the best chance at a normal, happy life because we know that she may eventually loose all her vision. She lives down in south Texas with a family who saw her picture and could not live without her in their lives! Her sister is also a double dapple blind girl, and the way they play, romp and curl up together is a joy to watch.
Daphne - I adored this dog. I cried when she left my house headed to a new forever family. Daphne was about 6 or 7 years of age, a silver dapple with the BEST personality ever. She was a rare "seizure sensor" dog, which cannot be learned or taught, sadly, my husband said "no" to me adopting her! So the next best thing was to find the perfect home for her special personality. Daphne has brothers and sisters to spend time with, and a family who adores her precious soul.
Tiffy is one gorgeous little dachshund!  A chocolate piebald long haired lady with hazel eyes, pink nose, and pretty long hair on her ears, She's young, just under 2 years of age, perky, playful, good w/ other dogs, older kids and is doing great with potty training with potty pads and learning the doggie door. Her previous person said she'd had a few seizures, but so far we have not observed any. It could be due to stress or fear, so a nice calm home that can encourage her confidence should also decrease any potential problems. She's fully vetted, ready to find that perfect family! Definitely a prissy little thing who loves her new name and prances when she's being called. Tiffany now lives in the Austin area with a lucky family who are thrilled to call her their ?furchild? and so far, not one seizure! So she must be happy and settling in well with her new family.
I absolutely adore this dog! She's probably the BEST dog we have had in rescue for a while.  Pearl is a mini black and tan silver dapple long haired lady who is about 6 years of age, current on shots, spayed, on preventative, and micro chipped. Her gentle and adoring personality makes her a joy to be around. Good with other dogs, kids, cats, goats, horses, what can I say? she's perfect! Well, almost... She was bitten by a rattlesnake 2 years ago and her left eye had to be removed, but I swear, after just a few minutes, most folks don't even notice. Pearl is just that, an absolute precious, grade A, shining Pearl. She lives in Harlingen with a volunteer foster home with two other dogs and lots of gentle love, attention, and adoration. She loves going bye-bye and will get to come back to Kerrville to see me, so I have visitation rights!
This is one beautiful little milk chocolate long haired, 3 year old lady!  Good with most all other dogs, she?s pretty, perky and loving. She wants love and attention and her share of lap time, so this pretty little munchkin lives in Ingram with a family who thinks she?s the prettiest thing in the universe!  She never met a human she did not like and expects everyone to tell her how beautiful she is at least three times a day!
Keeley - oh, what an ugly dog this one was when she came to us from a pound - severe generalized d?od?tic mange, infections everywhere, bleeding, gross!  But with time, patience, medication, supplements, I just knew she'd blossom into a beautiful butterfly. Hence her name. Keeley means beautiful on the inside, and she is!  now that her hair is all grown in shiny and black, her new home thinks she the most beautiful girl both inside and out! She lives in a fabulous home in Kerrville with a great sculptured yard to play in.
Teddy Bear was one of the prettiest long haired boys to come to rescue in a long time, he loves to play in water, is good with other dogs and is such a happy, well socialized youngster. He's found a great home to adore and love him, even when he splashes all his water out of his bowl...
Maxey and Mollie were the perfect pair of longhairs. Mollie's dominant and bossy personality fit perfectly with Maxey's perky and playful temperament. This beautiful pair live with a great young couple in Austin where they will be spoiled and well loved for the rest of their lives! Mollies blue eyes and dappled coat caught a lot of people's attention, but I tell you, as gorgeous as she is, Max is the better personality dog that gets along with everyone, canine or human!
Sebastian - this boy was thrown from a car - dumped in San Antonio. He was loved the moment his foster dad picked him up, and we loved him here in Kerrville. Now he's found that permanent love and trust in a new home in San Antonio where he will never be homeless again. With his dignified personality and handsome face, it is hard to not fall for this little red tweenie.
Our fun-loving, playful Lizzy is now in a loving home that enjoys her antics and goofyness! She was fun to get to know, and we?re all so glad to see her in a happy home.
Chubby & Tubby - GREAT wonderful, standard black and tan boys who were inseparable, were adopted to a home in the north Texas area near Dallas. Chubby is the sweet one, and Tubby is the mischievous rascal. Both are big guys, weighing in at about 28 pounds!  After a rocky start in their new home, I am hopeful that the kinks got worked out, some fur-brats just need a strong hand and some training.
Itchy & Scratchy - OMG. Can you say Adorable? LOVE these two monkeys!  When the little puppy boys came to us from the Corpus Christi area, they were literally hairless, covered in scabs with broken and bleeding skin that looked like an elephant's due to d?od?tic mange. It took many months of treatments and supplements, but finally, these two cuties were negative for mange and healthy enough to get vetted and find homes! Talk about lucky, they were adopted by an attorney in San Antonio where they get to romp and play in a big backyard and they keep their new adopted parents in stitches from their antics. I'm so proud of these boys - two vets strongly urged euthanasia - but as you guessed, I'm a little hard headed too...I opted to at least try to save them. They are truly a success story.
Sachi's new parents say that Sachi has completely stolen their hearts and they can?t believe they thought their family was complete before they adopted her. Such a happy girl, tail wagging and kisses abound! They've even thought about hiring her out for facials! Sachi and Sofie (her Catahoula big sister) are inseparable. They play together all day and are best of buddies. They immediately took to each other like they knew they were meant to be together. Her lack of sight hasn?t slowed her down as she's always full speed ahead like a torpedo. She'll be enrolled into Therapy Training soon and her limited eyesight will be an inspiration to others living with disabilities. Her parent's can?t wait for her to bring her joyful spirit to children and the elderly. Sachi's name means ?child of joy? - it's perfect for her as she's a joy to everyone around her!

Lily is a gorgeous 10 month old albino dachshund girl who is blind and deaf with a fabulous personality. Lily has been adopted by a local family who have a little terrier that leads Lily around and helping her navigate life. They play together and she gets to go to work with her new family!
Maverick - sigh... we love Maverick. He's a blind double dapple puppy who didn't have a clue that he was in any way handicapped! He lives in a home several hours away from us now, but he's got three other doxies to play with and pester, and they all tolerate his puppy-ness. Mav was well loved while in rescue by his foster parents who miss him constantly and he inspired a story to be written about how his presence had touched the lives of everyone in the home.
Max - Finally! Max is finally adopted! He was such a GREAT dog that I was floored that he'd been in rescue for such a long time. His personality was perfect, his conformation was outstanding (except for broken tail), very muscular and masculine boy who loves all people including children - he loved cats and thought they tasted best with barbeque sauce...Obviously he has a strong hunting instinct and would be a great hunting dog! Max was a fun dog to have here and I greatly enjoyed his presence, but am even happier that he finally got the home that he always wanted!
Prince Charles was the bestest mixed breed I've ever had in rescue - ever! Charles was part dachshund and part King Charles Cavalier Spaniel. He would wave his paws to express his happiness, and his warm, loving spaniel eyes were so expressive. Once he was heartworm treated, Prince Charles had his choice of homes to choose from! He picked the home he wanted and went off happily wagging his tail without so much as looking back.
Parker, a WIRE haired puppy boy! Parker is impossibly cute, whisker-faced, sad hopeful eyes, a funky chocolate color and just a puppy at about 6 months of age! Now who was it that was looking for a wire youngster? Here he is! Little Parker Buddy will be a standard - Geez, I love the big standards! the bigger the better for a lazy hound-dog. Parker will be neutered, shots, fecal test, and is on HW preventative - plus he's being treated for sarcoptic mange. He's full of puppy enthusiasm, playfulness, and goofy/quirky wire hair personality. Parker is now living the life of riley in a happy, laughing, fun filled home in SA.
Rosie is a spunky little black and tan short haired mini baby! She is about 9 months old and makes us laugh every day. She is full of life and joy during the day and wants your arm around her when she sleeps at night. Rosie is an active little gal and is looking for a family with a doggy friend who enjoys playing with toys, chewing on bones, and getting into mischief. She will be fully vetted, spayed/shots/fecal/hw and chipped before adoption. If you are looking for good times and cuddly warm nights, this perky little beauty is the one for you! Fill out an application for her today, she checks her email all the time and is anxiously awaiting her new home!

Rosie is the little girl everyone wanted to adopt, and that her lucky parents were chosen by her personally, as the folks she wanted to spend the rest of her life with.

Mocha a tiny little bitty chocolate dapple lady who is about 6 years old and about 6 pounds too. Mocha is blind in one eye and had been horrendously injured at some point in her life. Her back was literally broken and it re-healed awkwardly, but she can walk!!! A bit wobbly in her hind end, but this little cutie has a will to survive and the inquisitiveness to keep going forward. She has to go thru heartworm treatment, but then will be ready for adoption. She's a great little tiny girl who would love a cuddle buddy!

UPDATE 05/31/08 - Mokie is a perky little stinker who loves toys and for an itty bitty girl, she's fearless! I just love her personality and spunkiness! Please consider adopting her!

Mokie's home up north of the DFW area is so far away from me that I missed her the minute she left. Mocha is a special, very special little lady who has been through hell in her short life, and has come out on the other side, a happy, feisty, joyful little soul. She inspires so many people who have met her, that we affectionately say that we didn't rescue her, she rescued US!

Peanut & Brautwurst - Peanut is just a loveable little dapple red boy with a stocky physique. Loyal, happy and easy going. He's a cutie-patootie and Bratwurst is a standard red male young dachshund who is a 20 pound oaf and big buddy - brother to Peanut, they now live together in a home who love their antics and personalities.

Earlier this year my husband Scott and I adopted Molly from DDR... I just wanted to send you and update on her and tell you that we are so very blessed to have her as part of our family. She is so precious and I can't imagine my life with out my red-dapple Molly-girl.  She's a beautiful treasure.  Since we don't have kids, our doxies are our babies!

Thanks so much for doing what it is that you do. I can't tell you what a blessing it is to have Molly! We just adore her!

2-3 year old, 12 pound doxie is a classic gentleman, reminiscent of James Bond. When the situation is appropriate, Miles is a man of action and determination who can rid your property of the scourge of squirrels with his characteristic single minded focus. He is a handsome long haired black and tan youngster good w/ kids and other dogs. He now lives in SA with his new family who adore him and will be sure to spoil him the rest of his life. He was found a filthy, matted mess, and now sleeps in the big bed like a king.

this little red mini short haired five year old pretty girl lives in a great home in the SA area with a new family that absolutely thinks she hung the moon and the stars!  She?s fun, energetic, ok w/ kids, cats, and all people. She was an easy girl to find a home for, wish they were all like Miss Minnie!

The world's most adorable "Princess Frieda" arrived in rescue and advised us that she desired us to find her the best home a princess could hope for!  She's a milk chocolate wire haired mini girl, with pink toenails, pink nose, and weighs a dainty 10 pounds. She is 2 years, 8 months of age. A bit shy at first with strangers and startles easily, she doesn't like loud noises, but gets perky and has that mischievous wire haired personality. Her new family down in the Corpus Christi area is tickled with their beautiful little chocolate morsel.

One of my favorite fur-boy's, Levi was at a pound, heartworm positive, and scrawny. He is doing very well now, treated for heartworm; neutered, healthy and happy boy!  He loves to get attention, lap time, scratches, belly rubs, and give kisses!  He's friendly, attentive, very bright and intelligent. He's also very small in stature, good w/ kids and such a really good dog!  Our little Levi is all happy and waggly tailed in his new home in the San Antonio area.

Preston and Lindsay were adopted together and get to stay together for the rest of their days! Originally, the kids came in with two others, and these two lucky furkids got to meet a family that wanted to adopt them both and keep them together!  Lindsay is a pretty little black and tan dapple, and her honey bunny is a red dapple fella. Together, they are quite the mischievous and energetic pair.  Always love it when dogs who have lived together their entire lives, get to stay together in a new adoptive home

His name alone made me break out into song "Aruba, Jamaica, oooh I wanna take ya, to Bermuda, Bahama...." you get the picture, Kokomo didn?t seem to mind my off-tune rendition of his name in song.  He?s a handsome three year old chocolate and tan short haired fella who has been well cared for, well loved and was raised with little children and other dogs, so he's a very well socialized young man. Koko is neutered, current on shots, fecal neg, hw neg and on preventative. He's microchipped and living the life of Riley with a great family who think he?s quite the handsome fella!

Cheyenne is a very beautiful short hair red that will turn four in November. A pretty tweenie at 13.6 pounds. Her mom (or family) is in the military and due to deployment was forced to give her up for that reason only. Cheyenne is a very business young doxie that has a great disposition and is very well trained. She loves to snuggle on her foster parents laps, play with her foster doggie siblings and can't wait to sink her teeth into any toy that crosses her path! She is extremely well kennel trained and will sleep in it all night without saying a peep but prefers to sleep in her humans bed under the covers like most doxies. She is fully potty trained but has had a few accidents most likely due to all the relocating confusion. Cheyenne is a very special little doxie who found an Austin family that promised to love and cherish her for the rest of her life.

Hobo ? What a love! This fellow had a rough, awful time in life. He came to us addicted to alcohol, malnourished, had to have surgeries to remove all his rotten teeth and two hernias once he was detoxed.  He turned into the most amazingly fun, outgoing, silly, and affectionate little red long haired man I?ve had the pleasure to meet and love!  Everyone who met Hobie fell in love with him and his tongue lolling out little face.  His new person lives in SA and enjoys his adorable personality and his quirkiness. I?m exceedingly happy for this little man. He went from drunk and homeless, to healthy and joyful in a few short months!  His is a true rags to riches, happy ending story.

Bethanie was broken ? limping and in extreme pain due to her pelvis being broken in four places, plus a broken leg.  With the outstanding compassion and care from Animal Care Services veterinarians and the exceptional skill of Dr. Payne at VREC in San Antonio, This girl has made a total recovery!  Many folks donated money that we pooled together to help with her veterinary expenses. The outpouring of love, affection and well wishes helped her recover, get stronger and run like a doxie should ? with the wind in her ears!  Bethanie had several families interested in adopting her, but she chose a special person to be her very own. Bethanie has a great home where she can run, play and be herself, without ever having to worry about being thrown from a vehicle or abused ever again!

this great pair of red short haired four year old brothers who are amazingly well behaved, beautiful, and have been extremely well cared for in their lives, have a new home in the San Antonio area with a family who is home almost all the time to play with them and spend time with them. Both are in the tweenie weight range, and are perfect gentlemen! These guys are pre-spoiled, house trained, crate trained, leash trained, used to living in the house and good with other dogs and kids, so they fit in perfectly with their new family!

Gorgeous, handsome and cute as a speckled pup! Rockford came from Rockport from a particularly bad court situation, he's a red piebald short haired boy who weighs around 12 pounds, has lots of "ticking" on his coat (speckles). He?s such a great little dog, good with female dogs, ok with some males, I suspect he'd be ok w/ older kids, no cats. Very kissy, craves attention and lap time. This handsome fella found a home with a previous adopter and has two little friends to play with in a huge back yard in the Texas Hill Country, a far cry from the cage and filth from where he grew up! This is what we mean when we say we really strive to make a better life for each of our precious little souls that come through our rescue.

This pretty little blue lady is a 4 year old mini, 10 pound, blue dachshund with very little hair. Clingy and shy at first, submissive, and fully vetted. She's spayed, current on shots, heartworm negative and on preventative. She's very shy but was searching for a nice calm family to love her, and let her cuddle on their laps. Very gentle kisses! Although to shy to be around young children, she?s great with adults and found the perfect home where her gentleness is very appreciated.
Whew, we were beginning to wonder if Tinkerbelle would ever find a home! she's safe, happy and well spoiled in her new home with a couple who love her name and her personality! A little tweenie red short haired girl who has a strong hunting instinct and is deceptively active, finally found the home she was waiting for - now she has a family of her very own!
Rocky II is an older guy who loves, loves, loves cats!  Such an easy boy to have around the house, as he's housetrained, gentle, good with other dogs, cats, kids - just an all around perfect little gentleman. He's got a home now, for the rest of his days so he can be treated with respect, dignity and love in his older years.
Frieda was re-adopted by her very own daddy!  Due to life circumstances, he was forced to give her up, she bounced around until she ended up with us in rescue. Which is where her dad found her! He called, he emailed, and we met him to see what Frieda felt about him after all she'd been through, and it was absolutely heartwarming to see her pure joy and happiness to be in her daddy's arms again! Needless to say, Frieda went "back home" with the man of her dreams. *Sigh* a true love story.

precious Pebbles came to us from South Texas with three adorable puppies. After weaning them, she's now settled into a home in SA close to where her triplets are adopted so that she can visit with them on special holidays and gatherings!  She's an adorable, busy, active little red short haired girl who now has two other dogs to play with, and a doting new family!  Pebbles is a tiny girl, sweet, playful and close to perfect! A joy to have in rescue and an even bigger joy to her new dad.

About 16 months ago we met our precious Marley Sue (aka Mars Bar) at the park in Kerrville with Christine.  Little did I realize what a big part of my life she would become.  She is funny, loveable and the kissiest dog I've ever seen!  She loves to go "bye-bye" and is great on trips.  She loves the beach but is not a big fan of the stickers!  When she gets one in her paw, she holds it up and looks at me as if to say "A princess shouldn't have to deal with this!"  She loves the backyard and has graduated from chasing butterflies to small birds...the bigger ones still scare her!  Her radar to the microwave or a box or bag opening in the kitchen is incredible....and she does love her treats!  She has gotten better about begging at the table, because she knows if she begs, she doesn't get anything.....so she just sits and stares with those beautiful, brown eyes!  She sleeps in the big bed and loves to be under the covers!  What a joy she is and what happiness she has brought to our family!  Thanks again DDRTX!
Sincerely,
Myrt Ott

Millie came to us pregnant and had two adorable babies in rescue. She's a pretty girl, full of life, love and energy! She's also deaf and has some vision issues due to being a double dapple. she lives in a great home with a big brother (boxer!) to play with and boss around

Little bit is a beautiful long haired, 3 year old boy who is sweet, good natured, good with most other dogs, and was well cared for his entire life. He continues the tradition of being spoiled rotten in his new home in San Antonio!

This delightful little girl has almost perfect house manners, she's being loved to pieces by her new family. she came in from no so good situation, but rebounded immediately into the perfect house companion!

Prince Harry is a ball freak, canyou tell by his picture? What a love! he's a young red long haired fella that was about 6 years of age - he found his new family way down at the coast near Rockport where he lives in luxury with folks that adore his spunky personality.
